Since the look and feel of Emergent Learning disciplines varies widely
to match an organization’s needs and culture, the best way to understand
them is through examples of real-world challenges and solutions:
The Kansas City manufacturing team at Harley-Davidson used AARs to prepare
for new product launches. The team conducted three pre-builds: starting
with planning, they tested their assumptions in the production setting,
conducted a series of AARs with different sub-teams involved in the process,
raised their performance standards, adjusted their planning assumptions
and did it again. These cycles led to confidence that they could perform
to standard for the first full production run. A final AAR was held with
all of the teams to wrap up lessons learned and feed them into the planning
for the next product launch.
